Backyard Birds

There has been an unusually large number of Western Tanagers reported visiting backyards in Northern Utah this spring. I had never gotten a picture of one before so I spent some time last night and this evening patiently waiting for one to come in close enough and stay still long enough to get a picture. Not only did I get a few pictures of Tanagers but I got some bonus new yard birds as well. I have seen Western Tanagers in my yard several times in the past but this evening while waiting I was able to get Brown-headed Cowbird and Warbling Vireo though I have seen them several times each in the past this is first time I have seen these two species in my yard. I also had a wonderful time watching all the usual visitors.

Nature Trail Dedication

Farmington Bay just dedicated phase II of the Great Salt Lake Nature Center, the new Nature Trail and it is a beauty. I attended the dedication this morning and here are a few pictures of the people that made it happen, the trail and the birds...
